Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. Near Fine dj. Second Edition. (grey card covers, in black dust jacket with silver printing & decoration) [minor offsetting to endpapers; very slight edgewear at top of jacket]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author/poet on the front endpaper: "To Charles King -- / in appreciation / Florence Eakman."… A 26-page booklet, consisting of a 2-page introductory piece in which the author recounts an encounter with Fate, followed by eighteen single-page poems. Inscribee Charles King was a Pasadena-based newspaperman and author; Florence Eakman was a longtime resident of Sierra Madre (a foothill community just to the northeast of Pasadena), and was well-known locally as a children's author, playwright, teacher, and poet. (She even advertised her services as a poet-for-hire in the local newspapers.) The inscribee (and original owner) of the book, Charles King, was a Pasadena-based newspaperman, author and sometime playwright; the extensive pencil underlining in the book can be attributed to the fact that he was using it for research on a book of his own (never completed) on nutrition. (NOTE that the pieces of the dust jacket that are laid in -- all quite tattered, but textually complete -- are: the rear panel, both flaps, about half the spine, an about one-quarter of the front panel. In other words, it's useful for information (including a long blurb on the rear panel) but hardly a candidate for restoration -- although, if you're desperate for some kind of protective covering Signed by Author.
