Some notable features of this volume are several articles on famous caves by Alice Cary (who is mostly known as a poet); an article about William Caxton, the first English printer of books; a vehemently anti-Catholic editorial against the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (the Brown Scapular); an article about the Capuchin Crypt in Rome and its famous ossuary; and a tribute to Scottish geologist Hugh Miller, who had recently died by suicide.
