Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Buck Calhoun, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus, Administration of Justice Department, lives on a well-maintained boat, the C-Breeze. Prior to retirement, he became licensed as a Private Investigator. After retirement, he created Unit-302, a select group of investigator associates. On this occasion, Buck receives a call from the father of a veteran-killer through an Associate. The father was a Korean War veteran. Now, he seeks to determine why his son chose to end his life in such a tragic manner, murder and suicide. Buck's sympathies for combat veterans, however, were not the decisive factors in his decision to accept the case. Rather it met his criteria for service. The episode was officially closed. The purpose now was not to re-open the case, or seek any form of compensation. The father was not seeking who to blame or someone to charge with incompetence or even to question the philosophy or quality of therapies used to treat PTSD veterans. He wasn't interested in litigation, revenge, or punishment. He sought facts, plausible explanations, and closure. He wanted truth, not opinion or speculation. Buck calls on his Associates who uncover disturbing evidence that call for careful analysis and evaluation. For this, he in turn calls on his old friend, retired university teacher, Tweedy Flynch, once again enlisting his help -- a role Tweedy accepts as a friend.…

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Tweedy Flynch visits his old friend and fellow Professor Emeritus, Buck Calhoun. After more than twenty years of teaching, Buck in Criminal Justice, and Tweedy in Philosophy, they're resigned to their disparate worldviews. Buck's retirement is active. His education and training provide the basis for consultations and counseling in police work. Tweedy's retirement keeps him in his home-office, reading and writing. On this visit, Buck seeks Tweedy's cooperation in resolving questions related to an old murder case, the Bravo Case. No charges were filed against the alleged murderer there being no witnesses, no physical evidence, and only an anonymous telephone call and document describing two murders in a local hospital. Were the deaths of two male hospital patients in the same wing, at about the same time natural deaths attributed to the risks of recovery from surgery, or murders as alleged in the anonymous communications? Buck claims that luck plays a critical role in solving many crimes and that without it even more murders would never be solved. Tweedy denies the concept, category and existence of luck. Thus disagreement begins. In the end, Buck elicits a plan of action from his old friend. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Buck Calhoun, Tweedy's old friend, has returned to California from Maui, whereupon he buys a boat and secures it near the town of Isleton in the Delta. Once settled, Tweedy gets invited over. Buck has agreed to help his former mentor and friend, Cal Braun, a former cop and now a private investigator who's lost his daughter-in-law to murder and his son to suicide. Her body is found in the trunk of her car, his on nearby Mt. Diablo. The case has been declared closed, but Cal isn't satisfied. Plagued by unanswered questions, he asks Buck to investigate. At first Buck declines Cal's request to investigate, reasoning that Cal has the knowledge and experience to undertake his own investigation. Cal persists however and Buck relents, but only after warning him that the investigation could lead to more grief. Cal accepts that possibility insisting that only the truth will bring peace. Tweedy is recruited by Buck as a fellow-assistant, a role Tweedy feels obliged to accept as a friend of many years. This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Buck Calhoun, Private Investigator, Professor Emeritus, Administration of Justice Department of a major university receives a request from an attorney and friend for his services. A grieving mother seeks answers to troubling questions about her son's sudden death, presumably by heart attack, while eating lunch at home alone on his day off from work. The mother's inquiries were all met with silence by her daughter-in-law and other family members. The son was pronounced dead by his doctor who signed the death certificate citing Myocardial Infarction as the cause of death. His body was cremated, no autopsy. No case pending. Buck agrees to consider, at the minimum, whether his services are necessary. The mother cannot afford a full-blown investigation. With a small budget of 25 grand, all that the mother could afford, he decides to make some inquiries. He calls on his Associates to mine databases for emails, cell phone communications, and conduct a few interviews with family members and neighbors to collect data that would determine whether to accept or reject a contract. His Associates uncover disturbing facts that call for careful analysis and evaluation. For this, he calls on his old friend, likewise a retired professor, Tweedy Flynch to enlist his help in the assessment of the collected data, a role Tweedy accepts based on their friendship. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Buck Calhoun, a retired Criminal Justice professor, lives on his boat, the C-Breeze, berthed at a dock in the California Delta. As a licensed private investigator he's often called upon. He avoids cases of murder, divorce, and all active criminal investigations. On this occasion, an attorney representing an anonymous client from a private, well-endowed college seeks his service to investigate the suicide of the head librarian. It was a closed case. The client wants to ascertain whether the investigation was sufficiently thorough. Plus, the matter of complications. Potentially incriminating complications. Buck agrees to meet with him when he reveals that an unnamed college professor recommended him. No sooner is the contract signed than he calls his old friend, retired university teacher, Tweedy Flynch. This won't be the first time they've worked together. This item is printed on demand.
