Gebunden mit Schutzumschlag 24 x 29 cm - Georges Seurat (18591891), ein Mann von stets korrektem Habitus, wurde von seinen Malerkollegen »der Notar« genannt und war dabei doch ein bahnbrechender Avantgarde-Künstler: Kein Bildthe…ma verdeutlicht das unerhört Neue an Seurats Gemälden und Zeichnungen besser als der Schwerpunkt des vorliegenden Bandes, die Figur im Raum. Seine Bleistiftstriche überziehen das Papier als dichtes Geflecht und lassen das Motiv als etwas Schwebend-Unbestimmtes hervortreten beziehungsweise verschwinden, markante Hell-Dunkel-Kontraste umspielen und akzentuieren die Figuren. In den Gemälden setzte er die Sujets in seiner Maltechnik des Pointillismus und in innovativen Kompositionen um, in späteren Arbeiten repetiert und variiert er sogar menschliche Formen innerhalb desselben Werks. Für diesen zunehmend geometrisierten Bildaufbau, der die Einzelelemente einer Systematik unterordnet, erntete er selbst noch die Bewunderung des Bauhauses.
