Cette édition est ornée de 29 compositions gravées sur bois dans le texte, dont 15 vignettes attribuées à Bernard Salomon illustrant la Pratique de l'eschelle altimètre. Celles-ci avaient déjà servi pour l'édition originale de 1546 également donnée par Jean de Tournes. On notera l'illustration particulièrement précoce du "pied royal" ou compas de proportion. Certains exemplaires étaient agrémentés des volvelles aux figures des pages 13 et 159, qui ne sont pas présentes dans notre exemplaire.
