Sample preparatory drawings and proofs with artist notes, are a featured allowing for a more complete understanding of Van Hoesen's art. Van Hoesen studied art at Standford University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948. She also attended Escuela de Pintura y Escultura de la Escuela Esmeralda, Mexico City and California School of Fine Arts (san Francisco Art Institute). After graduating from Stanford, she traveled to France and studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts de-Fontainebleau, Academie Julian, and Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. Her work is represented in numerous public collections, including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Library of Congress, Washington, DC; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Oakland Museum of California; Racine Art Museum, Wisconsin; Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC; University Museums, Iowa State University; and Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
