Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Frances Brundage (illustrator). Special Edition. King Arthur by Henry Gilbert (1929 Children's Hardcover in Dust Jacket) Promoted as part of "The Companion Series" published by Saalfield Publishing Company. The titles were children classics in the public domain with new illustrations or translations new to the 1920s publication dates. To that point in time, there were collections of folk tales and masterful poems about King Arthur, but no biographic stories other than these folk collections and "Morte D'Arthur (1477)". Henry Gilbert abridged and translated this collection into prose which made sense to people of the 1920s. 241pp. Interior is tight, clean and, except for inscription as Christmas gift in 1934 (to Arthur Jr!), unmarked. Hardcover has pictorial front board and green cloth spine with black lettering. It has a well-worn DJ missing chunks, brittle and sunburnt stabilized with tape. All new illustrations copyright 1929. This copy likely sold in 1934 and from a printing other than the 1st. No ISBN nor LCCN. MSR = US $ 1.25 postage paid. Thanks for looking! Prior Owner Name No Value.
