Un titolo che richiama, come afferma l'autore, una vecchia e diffusa canzone che veniva cantata "in occasione di feste sui posti di lavoro, nelle scuole o in ambito familiare, tra i giovani e i meno giovani" e ora diventata un grido, un urlo della gente della ex Repubblica jugoslava a porre rimedio ai mali della guerra. Il libro à una testimonianza dell'impegno continuo, incessante e martellante con il quale l'autore, Augusto Fonseca, già lettore presso l'Università di Skopje in Macedonia e ora docente di Materie letterarie presso l'Istituto Statale d'Arte "E. Giannelli" di Parabita, ha cercato di svegliare le coscienze addormentate dei potenti e dei (pre)potenti del mondo, nonchà le coscienze degli intellettuali non solo jugoslavi o serbi, ma anche italiani. Augusto Fonseca si à impegnato affinchà il sonno della ragione non continuasse a generare mostri, affinchà i mass-media negli anni che vanno dal 1992 al 1995 dessero voce alla tragedia dei popoli jugoslavi, affinchà l'ONU intervenisse con la sua autorità per fermare il massacro quotidiano. Frutto del lavoro di Fonseca sono una serie di lettere all'ONU e al Papa, raccolte di firme e di aiuti economici pro-Bosnia, appelli agli intellettuali. Con amarezza egli stesso constata che pochi rispondono alle sue parole, alcuni eludono l'argomento, molti non ne parlano per non assumere responsabilitÃ. Tuttavia egli continua a credere nel suo operato e lancia una nuova iniziativa: l'istituzione di una Borsa di studio per tre studenti: uno bosniaco-croato, uno bosniaco-serbo e uno bosniaco-musulmano affinchà si diffonda la cultura nel Paese martoriato dalla guerra e con la cultura, finalmente, trionfi la pace.
