Very scarce.

Condition: Fair. 1881. No Edition Remarks. 437 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Volume II. Ex Libris plate to front pastedown. Light foxing and moderate tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters and hinges but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has light sunning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Good+ with typical wear at extremities, one page torn, shaken but not cracked. The life and military career of Winfield Scott Hancock - his early life, education and remarkable military career. Written largely as a campaign biography for Hancock when he ran as the Democratic nominee for President against Garfield in 1880. There appear to be many publishers of this book in 1880 (all with the same copyright) - typical of something being hurriedly published that year for the presidential election. Also contains a succinct biographical sketch of William H. English - Hancock's running mate.
