Sound and internally clean. Brief gift inscription dated 1850 on the front flyleaf and neat name of the recipient at the head of the title page. FIRST EDITION. In addition to weather and the movement of the seasons, the book includes information on botany, ornithology, astronomy, the rustic calendar, etc. Thomas Furly Forster (1761-1825) was an English botanist. "His natural history journals, which included weather prognostics, were published by his son in 1827 as 'The Pocket Encyclopædia of Natural Phenomena'." --Oxford DNB. His son, Thomas Ignatius Maria Forster (1789-1860), wrote on various scientific and philosophical topics. He was a proponent of phrenology, a term he is credited with inventing.
