Forsyth, 1802-69, the successful Quebec business man, whose firm prospered in the fur trade and held the monopoly as the East India Company agent, made a leisurely tour of the Mediterranean and Near East in 1860. The Appendix contains his speech of 1858 in favour of a railway to the Pacific. An account of a journey made by this Canadian author through the Mediterranean to Malta, Egypt, Palestine, Beirut, Tripoli, Smyrna, Constantinople and back to England.
