Clean reading pages otherwise. --- An edited volume surveying mass spectrometric techniques applied to the study of organic materials in works of art and archaeological objects. The… book deals with mass spectrometric methods used to study traditional organic materials in cultural heritage objects, which are inevitably different from the original materials because of production, curing and ageing processes such as polymerisation, oxidation, hydrolysis and saponification, and whose analysis and location within an object requires the taking of samples, in contrast to inorganic analysis. The contributions, drawn from an international group of specialists, are arranged in parts covering direct mass spectrometric analysis, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, and further MS-based techniques. Chapters include Organic Materials in Art and Archaeology by the editors, and an overview of mass spectrometric based techniques applied in the cultural heritage field by Gianluca Giorgi, together with contributions by Erika Ribechini on direct MS characterisation of resinous materials, Martine Regert on waxes and lipids, Patrick Dietemann and Christoph Herm on GALDI-MS for natural varnishes and binders, and Stepanka Kuckova, Radovan Hynek and Milan Kodicek on MALDI-MS for protein paint binders, with further GC/MS chapters on lipids and resinous materials by the editors and Ribechini. Chapters include multiple reference tables and charts, and each is accompanied by an extensive bibliography. Edited by Maria Perla Colombini and Francesca Modugno; published by John Wiley & Sons, Chichester. In English. Ex-Library.
