La presente Sessione si colloca alla fine del ciclo che dal 1984 in poi ha affrontato di fatto tematiche pastorali. Vorrebbe quasi porsi come conclusione Il termine nuova non intende valere come indicativo di una svolta cost radicale che f…accia pensare ad una rivoluzione. Si tratta di approntare, piuttosto, un bilancio critico che si presenti come una verifica del cammino fatto; e per determinare un rilancio dell'ecumenismo nella pastorale. Pastorale ed ecumenismo si devono incontrare in due modi. Ormai dovrebbe risultare pacifico che, anzitutto, nella pastorale ordinaria di ogni chiesa locale e di ogni comunità, l'ecumeni simo ha il diritto di rivendicare una sua presenza almeno in quanto settore specifico. In questo caso, la pastorale viene intesa co me un tutto (l'azione complessiva della chiesa) e l'ecumenismo come una sua parte, un suo aspetto. Purtroppo in molti casi ci troviamo ancora a questo livello preliminare: l'ecumenismo chiede di far parte delle cure pastorali della chiesa, domanda di essere as sunto all'interno delle attività normali della pastorale. Ma c'è un secondo traguardo da raggiungere, ed è quello più elevato, meta del precedente: l'ecumenismo deve diventare dimensione che qualifica tutta intera l'attività pastorale della chiesa, la pastorale deve risultare impregnata di spirito e di stile ecumenico. La nostra Sessione terrà conto di ambedue le prospettive. In terzo luogo vorrei richiamare l'attenzione sull'importanza del vissuto concreto della presente nostra Sessione. Noi, qui e ora, siamo chiamati a disegnare un reale modello di pastorale per la futura vita di chiesa, attraverso la stessa nostra esperienza.
