Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 2017 Brill hardcover edition. Light reading wear else very good condition. From the cover: The Works of Ibn Wadih al-Yaqubi contains a fully annotated translation of the extant writings of Abu al-Abbas al-Yaqubi, a Muslim imperial official and polymath of the third/ninth century, along with an introduction to these works and a biographical sketch of their author. The most important of the works are the History (Tarikh) and his Geography (Kitab al-buldan). The Works also contains a new translation of al-Yaqubi's political essay (Mushakalt al-nas) and a set of fragmentary texts drawn from other Arabic medieval works. Al-Yaqubi's writings are among the earliest surviving Arabic-language works of the Islamic period, and thus offer an invaluable body of evidence on patterns of early Islamic history, social and economic organization, and cultural production. Contents: Chapter 1, 'Introduction' by Matthew S. Gordon; Chapter 2, 'Ibn Wadih al-Ya'qubi: A Biographical Sketch' by Sean Anthony and Matthew S. Gordon; Chapter 3, 'Manuscripts, Printed Editions, and Translations of al-Ya'qubi's Works' by Everett K. Rowson; Chapter 4, 'The Book of the Adaptation of Men to Their Time and Their Dominant Characteristics in Every Age (Mushakalat al-nas li-zamanihim wa-ma yaglibu 'alayhim fi kull 'asr)'; Chapter 5, 'The Geography (Kitab al-Buldan)'; Chapter 6, 'Fragments'; Chapter 7, 'Fragments from the Lost Part of the Geography'; Chapter 8, 'Fragments from Other Works'; Chapter 9, 'New Fragments'; Chapter 10, 'Passages Attributed to al-Ya'qubi in Ibn al-Daya, Kitab al-Mukafa'a wa-Husn al-'Uqba'; Chapter 11, 'The History (Ta'rikh) Adam to Pre-Islamic Arabia'.…
