[From Foreword] As the Cleveland Museum of Art prepared to enter the final year of its ambitious renovation and expansion, we wanted to make a lasting record of the final flowering of our project. The idea was to follow the life of the institution through all of its seasons, its spaces, its art, and its people to create a portrait of the new Cleveland Museum of Art. We knew that with a canvas this large, this portrait would have to be a collaborative project, so we asked legendary Cleveland photographer Jennie Jones to take the lead with her colleague Stuart Pearl. For the last thirty years, Jennie has produced a remarkable record of Cleveland's landscape and architecture, so the choice seemed only natural.The concept was not only to show the gorgeous galleries and dynamic public events but also to convey a sense of all the work that happens out of sight in order to create the rich experience that is the Cleveland Museum of Art. This was an outstanding opportunity to share a deeper look into the heart of a museum. We wanted to show the spaces that the public never gets to explore, and most importantly, we wanted to honor the behind-the-scenes activities and the extraordinary men and women who make it all happen. We have included at the back of the book a complete list of the staff of the museum and the Provenance restaurant and cafe, as well as the board of trustees.
