Paperback. Condition: Near Fine. Maine; Harrah Lord; Yellow House Studio; Rockport (illustrator). Book is in pristine condition. Its focus is the necessity of protecting and promoting the Maine North Woods, and the Thoreau-Wabanaki Trail, an interconnected series of paddling and hiking routes in northern Maine that were traveled in the 1850s by Henry David Thoreau and his Penobscot guides. The routes he and his guides followed are part of a much larger system of primeval waterways used by Native American peoples for thousands of years before Thoreau's journeys in the 1840s and 1850s and since. Thoreau, America's first great naturalist, wrote beautifully about his travels in the region in his book, The Maine Woods. ; Oblong Small 4to 9" - 11" tall; 102 pages.

Soft cover. Condition: Poor. Publisher's blue printed wrappers, octavo, pp. 259. A wide array of forbidden activities, from "Instigating fights between animals" to "Cheating at Gambling"; from "Prohibition of Knife-throwing" to "Marathon dance contests." Our favorite: "Disgraceful practices offending health and decency," such as "releasing a spring . . . whereby a person is thrown from a distance to a body of water or other receptacle." While the interior is sound, with previous owner referencing several articles with a marginal "X," the wrappers are in POOR condition. Previous owner name at top edge of front wrapper. Front wrap is very tender and holding but tenuously. Spine ends have perished, and what remains of wraps at spine is chipped and tattered. Front wrap and first three leaves missing bottom tips. We have tried to stay the separation of the wrappers by inserting the pamphlet into a clear new Ultra-Pro sleeve and our recommendation is to leave it there except for occasional consultation.
