[Rare Early Mexican-American War-era, Pennsylvania-German Newspaper] The Hanover Gazette was a local - page, weekly paper for Hanover Pennsylvania's German population. Bound Folio. Contains weekly papers from: July 23, 1845 - July 21, 1847, Nos. 2081 - 2184. 104 issues, 416 pages. Library stamps. Scattered staining, some of the later have tide stains. Tanning. Includes local advertisements, images. Some articles and ads are in English. Includes Mexican American war news, politics, local commerce, news from Europe. Mostly printed in Fraktur German. Die Hannover Gazette, und Unpartheyische Wochenschrift. Daniel Philip Lange (1783-1856) printed this paper in Hanover. Lange was active in the local Democratic-Republican Party. In 1815 he was elected the first town clerk of Hanover, a position he held for decades.
