Add to basketin the foreground is a well attired man talking to a woman similarly attired. The composition of the scene suggests that the well dressed couple in the foreground may well be the sheep farmer and his wife visiting their flock in the evening as the sun goes down over the horizon in the background. It was common practise for shepherd's to wear stilts in areas of grazing land that were subject to flooding, the flute playing may be to ward off foxes with the approach of night. The illustrator Georges Redon ( 1896 - 1943 ) was a French painter , illustrator , cartoonist , poster artist ,engraver and lithographer.
