In contemporary calf. 636 pp. (i.e. 638, pages 607 and 608 numbered twice), [1] bl. f., [2] pp. Rare first French edition of " the first major published text by Francis Bacon ". (JP Cavaillé) This work had a profound influence on Diderot, D'Alembert and on the structure of the Encyclopédie. Translation by André Maugars (c. 1580 - c. 1645). Binding worn, spine broken, one corner slightly worn. Some light wetness affecting a few page, small worm hole in int. margin without affecting text. Good copy remaining solidly bound and internally in good condition.
