Navy Blue Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First. Navy Blue Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. First. Hardback. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 432 pages; over 100 illustrations; from p. 4: "Legends and romances of the early history of Belgium, from half-mythical ages before the Christian era, down through the centuries, to medieval days of troubadour and tourney. Scattered among the tales were verses, rondaus, villanelles, serenas, ballads of wild adventure, legends of saints, and letters, written by fair hands to the monkish scribe." This book is an artistic salute to Belgium, recently over run and occupied by Germany in WWI. These heroic (and somewhat fictional) deeds from the past contrast unfavorably with the present excesses of the Hun. Book condition; Gold lettering on the spine cover has faded some, still legible. Top edge is gilt. Illustrations show Belgian scenes, monuments, historic personages, art work, paintings, statues, etc.
