Kunstakademie, Stuttgart sowie unter Paul Klee u. W. Kandinsky am Bauhaus, Berlin. 1951 wanderte er in die U.S.A. nach Kalifornien aus, wo er in Northridge als Professor bis 1973 tätig war. Seine Arbeiten sind u.a. von den Prinzipien der asiatischen Kunst beeinflußt.
