Leonardo da Vinci ci ha lasciato centinaia di disegni d'architettura, perlopiù bozze e schizzi, raramente annotati e spesso legati tra loro da un rapporto intricato. Questa produzione grafica, che esprime diverse fasi della sua riflessione concettuale, rappresenta ancora una sfida per lo studio della storia dell'architettura. Alcuni disegni riguardano progetti concreti e riconoscibili, ma la maggior parte è dedicata a ricerche su soggetti che stimolano l'interesse del maestro toscano. Il presente volume esamina anche i rapporti diretti e indiretti che Leonardo stabilisce con i suoi committenti e le dinamiche di migrazione di certi suoi concetti. Viene così a distinguersi il carattere singolare del suo immaginario architettonico ed emergono gli elementi in comune con le opere dei maestri coevi.
