Halbleder der Zeit , 8°. Barbier III, 278. - Marx Frossard (1757-1815) war ein Schweizer General und Poet, stammte aus dem Kanton Waadt (französisch Vaud). Seine hier vorgelegten ca. 35 poesievollen Verse und Stanzen sind an verschiedene Personen in Briefform gerichtet, darunter Stances sur la mort de M. de Voltaire , Aux Prussiens , auch an einen frere Alexandre, officier alors au Régiment de l Archiduc Ferdinand , Seine Pieces fugitives beginnt er mit einem Essay in Versform: Sur la mort de Mr. J. J. Rousseau. - Er verarbeitet hier auch seine Erlebnisse als Soldat, die er besonders in Böhmen verbracht hat. Er war einer der wenigen Schweizer, die vor Juste Olivier angenehme Verse schrieben, et d avoir servi à la fois Appollon et Mars lui donne un cachet spéc (Pierre Kohler). Vorliegendes Werk publizierte er in zwei Teilen, hier liegt nur der erste Teil vor. Es erschien nur in wenigen Exemplaren. Ces ouvrages de 380 pages au total, furent imprimés à peu d exemplaires, ce qui explique leur rareté de nos jours. Ils ne furent pas mis dans le commerce, mais donnés, selon la préface, à des personnes sûres, indulgentes, sensibles, aimant les vers, la nature et les beaux-arts. Bien qu estimant qu un soldat a autre chose à faire qu à versifier après trente ans.
