In overall very good used condition with only minor signs of age, handling and storage - boards a little rubbed to edges with a couple of small scuffs. Binding tight and appears almost unopened. Internally clean, no annotation or inscriptions; gilt page-ends retain lustre, text (Old High German) bright and clear throughout. A particularly handsome and well cared for copy. Die reichliche Gelegenheit zu historischen Studien wurde hier durch ihn ausgenutzt [.]. [.] 'Die mailändischen Feldzüge der Schweizer' [.] behandelt ein Thema zum ersten und einzigen Male im Zusammenhang, welches nun allerdings einer auf höherem wissenschaftlichem Standpunkte geschehenden Neubearbeitung würdig wäre." Komplexität des krisengeplagten Zeitraumes zuzuschreiben ist : 1350-1450 landwirtschaftliche Krise, seit 1347/48 mehrere Pestzüge, zudem fanden auch anderwärts kriegerische Konflikte statt, wie u.a. 1474-77 die Burgunderkriege. - "Politische Konstellation, Passlage und Wirtschaftsinteressen wiesen die Urner nach Süden, wo sie sich schon im 14. Jahrhundert Einfluss jenseits des Gotthardpasses zu sichern vermochten. [.] Neben den unmittelbaren Gegenspielern, den alpinen Kommunen und dem Herzogtum Mailand, waren vorab der deutsche König [Rupprecht, Sigmund], der Herzog von Savoyen und die Herren von Sax-Misox an den südlichen Passausgängen interessiert." Stets zeigte sich jener Widerspruch, welcher die Italienpolitik der alten Eidgenossenschaft kennzeichnete: Jede Gebietserweiterung, die mit Waffengewalt durchgesetzt wurde, endete für die Eidgenossen gerade wegen des Umfangs ihrer Eroberungen schliesslich mit dem Verlust der erworbenen Positionen, selbst jener, die sie früher aufgrund von diplomatischen Verhandlungen erreicht hatten." "Allein nach dem Tode seines Beschützers wurde Fuchs wegen seiner freisinnigen politischen und kirchlichen Auffassungen durch seine Mitmönche angefeindet, und er schätzte sich glücklich, in der stürmischen Zeit von 1799 seinen Austritt aus dem Kloster bewerkstelligen zu können."
