Handbound three-quarter leather over marbled boards with spine lettered and decorated in gilt; raised bands. Top edge gilt. Ribbon markers. Frontispieces in main volumes, publisher's device on title pages. Comprehensive work on morals during the Renaissance, Romanticism, and the Civic Eras, beautifully illustrated with drawings, woodcuts, etchings, etc.; in-text and additional plates in b/w and color printed on fine art paper. This work was extremely popular at the time and garnered its author the name "Sittenfuchs (Moral Fox)." Text in German, Gothic script. Binding with light wear along edges. Bindings and interior in overall near fine condition.
