Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. "An interpretation to which has been appended the text of the documents in the original Alsatian, the French of Laborde, and Modern German and English translations." A discussion of a law suit, including the testimony and decision, involving Gutenberg prior to his establishing a residence in Mainz. Sketches by Fritz Kredel. First edition limited to 660 copies. 7 5/8 in. x 10 in. pp. x, [2], 260. Red buckram, gilt titling maroon label on the spine and gilt medallion on front cover. Top edge gilt. Illustrated end-papers. Spine has light fading, is somewhat mottled, and has shelf wear to its ends. Some tanning to the inner hinges. The bottom end of the fore-edge and of the bottom edge shows a damp spot which extends very slightly onto about 2/3 of the pages. Two small, very light pencil notations on p. 44. Bearing the bookplate of Ben D. Zevin, formerly President of World Publishing Co. of Cleveland reading "From his library of Books about Books.".
