Il relate ici ses voyages touristiques principalement autour de la Méditerranée (Provence, Afrique du Nord, Malte, Grèce, Turquie, Egypte, Pyrénées et Russie). Bien que l'ouvrage soit agréable à lire, Daremberg utilise parfois un style sarcastique qui peut déplaire, entre autres dans les pages qu'il consacre à la Corse (pages 202 à 236).
