Frontispiece two image photographic portraits of the late Chief Towegale Kiwanga I and Chief Towegale Kiwanga, who authored Chapter II. Five additional photographic plates, two folding maps, and folding pedigree chart. A tight, internally clean and bright example though the spine is well faded, gilt still clear., and 1951 dated ownership notation top corner of the front pasetedown. Ethnography and history of the Ulanga Valley Bena tribe from the East African wetlands in present day Tanzania. The Culwicks write in the Preface, "We have attempted to put before the reader not necessarily an exhaustive study but a balanced picture of the life and outlook of a typical Bantu tribe. The author's drew largely on oral history of the indiginous people and the work examines religion, custom, property, customary law, agriculture, mutual aid, bridal wealth, familiy relationships, medicine men and more.
