Ogni tanto nella storia si combinano strane costellazioni di eventi e incontri. A guardare indietro, con gli occhi smaliziati di chi sa com'à andata a finire, sembrano quasi impossibili. Cosà nel 1925, in quella Germania che à ancora il cuore della cultura europea, ma sta rapidamente correndo verso il baratro della catastrofe nazista, Günther Anders, fresco della sua dissertazione con Edmund Husserl, e la giovane studentessa di filosofia Hannah Arendt si conoscono a Marburgo, dove seguono entrambi il seminario di Martin Heidegger sulla Critica della ragion pura. Si incontrano di nuovo solo nel 1929, questa volta a Berlino, in occasione di un ballo in maschera. Si sposeranno subito dopo, precipitosamente, per separarsi poi già nel 1937. Lei avrebbe in seguito ricordato il matrimonio con Günther come la fuga dal grande e impossibile amore della sua giovinezza, quello per Martin Heidegger. Per Günther, invece, Hannah sarebbe sempre rimasta il primo, forse l'unico vero amore di tutta una vita. Nel Natale del 1975, all'indomani della morte di Hannah, Günther riprende in mano gli appunti degli anni berlinesi trascorsi con lei; à soltanto tra il 1984 e il 1985 che prende la sua forma definitiva questo testo. Scritto sull'onda del dolore per una perdita che la lunga separazione non ha reso meno amara, e rimasto da allora nel segreto delle carte andersiane, questo piccolo, unico gioiello à qui pubblicato per la prima volta in edizione italiana, pressochà in contemporanea con l'uscita tedesca.
