Paperback. Condition: New. Within the realm of American culture and its construction of its citizenry, geography, and ideology, who are southerners and who are queers, and what is the South and what is queerness? Queering the South on Screen addresses these questions by examining the intersections of queerness, regionalism, and identity depicted in film, television, and other visual media about the South during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.Southern queers on screen often reflect the fantasy of cultural stereotypes. Editor Tison Pugh contends that when southern queers appear in films and on television, and when southern queers watch these portrayals, the inherent contradictions of these cultural depictions reveal the fault lines of gender, geography, and desire. These underlying schisms point to the infinite, if infrequently portrayed, possibilities of actual queer southern life.Examining a range of materials, including gothic horror films and drag queens on public-access television, the contributors show that queer southerners have always expressed desires for distinctiveness in the making and consumption of visual media. Read together, the introduction and twelve chapters deconstruct premeditated labels of identity such as queer and southern. In doing so, they expose the reflexive nature of these labels to construct ideological fantasies of southerners regardless of the complexity of their lives.

The main subject of the book is the Gaule de Boubers of Arras, related to the Gaule de Sancerre, as well as the interplay between the two. The book includes a documented history of the Gaule, as well as a discussion of such aspects as the Gaule's economic impact on the Church, the class struggle between lords and peasants, and the many protests and other instances of resistance against the Gaule. The author provides a detailed analysis of the Gaule, within the broader historical framework of the French feudal system, as well as Medieval church, state, and societal relationships. This book will appeal to historians, medievalists, and anyone interested in the economic and social history of France during the Middle Ages. This book focuses on the vast holdings of Saint-Vaast Abbey in northern France, documenting properties, revenues, and conflicts from the 14th to 18th centuries. The author presents a collection of 2,000 charters, surveys, and legal documents, most published here for the first time. From feudal land grants to lawsuits over tithes, these records provide unparalleled insights into the economic, religious, and social history of medieval and early modern France. Through lawsuits between abbots and townsfolk over taxation, boundary disputes, and the upkeep of churches and roads, the author recreates the complex world of landownership and legal recourse in the Ancien RÃ gime. Furthermore, the book highlights the abbey's role as a major religious institution, shedding light on the relationship between church and state, the evolution of religious practices, and the lives of ordinary people in pre-revolutionary France. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
