First Edition
Sofia: Khemus, [1931]. Octavo (22.3 × 16 cm). Original pictorial wrappers by Sirak-Skitnik (?); 109, [3], 110, [3] pp. Wrappers rebacked; restorations; a few nicks to wrappers; still good or better; in protective mylar. First edition of this account of the life of Soviet military leader and veteran of the Russo-Turkish war, Raycho Nikolov (1840-1885). Dora Petrova Gabe (1888-1983) was a Bulgarian Jewish poet who published lyrical verse in the Symbolist tradition, but was also active as a prolific translator from Czech, Polish, and Russian. The striking typographyic cover is most likely the work of Sirak Skitnik (the pseudonym of Panaiot Todorov, 1884-1943) one of the most productive and influential book designers of Bulgarian modernism, whose work ranged from Expressionism in the early 1920s to Constructivism in the 1930s. Not in Jacono, Bulgarian Modernism (2013). As of January 2024, not in KVK and OCLC. We can only trace the copy at the Bulgarian National Library.
Condition: Used: Good. De légers plis sur la couverture, des rousseurs à l'intérieur mais propre et solide.
