Prima edizione in lingua italiana del 1558 di questa splendida opera sugli epitaffi e le medaglie raccolte dall'autore durante i suoi viaggi in Italia, lo storico e astronomo fiorentino Gabriel Simoni (1509-1576). Stampata a Lione, è una delle edizioni più belle stampate da Jean de Tournes "L'ingéniosité de la mise en pages est tout à fait remarquable" (Brun, 294) Contemporaneamente a questa edizione venne pubblicata alcune settimane prima la versione francese che omise parte del testo e 17 illustrazioni. Dedica ad Alfonso D'este Principe di Ferrara. Frontespizio architetonico, ritratto dell'autore al verso del frontespizio e 68 finissime incisioni di medaglie, epitaffi e i dodici segni dello Zodiaco, molte attribuite all'incisore Bernard Salomon.
