Condition very good, the covers are rubbed at corners and edges, hinges cracked, calf chipped at hinges, new endpapers. The book is complete, 1 preliminary ff misbound, title dust marked, strengthened at outer margin, with 2 small old signatures to blank areas, blank part of last ff with repaired tear, second half of book close cropped at head with some loss to running titles. Other than this the pages are very clean throughout, no toning or foxing, though there are some very old, neat ms notes in the margins to a number of pages. "First ed. of the expanded version of Jean de Gagny's commentaries of the Epistles [1538], here with the addition of his commentary on the Apocalypse, including the text" (Schreiber). Each Commentary includes the full Bible Text. Contains De Gagny's Commentary on, and the full text of the Epistles, the Book of Jude and the Book of Revelation. Reliure de l'époque de plein veau brun monté sur ais de bois, plats orné de triple filets à froid ainsi que d'un large décor estampé figurant portraits et fleurons, fragments de fermoir en métal doré, dos à nerfs orné de filets gras à froid, caissons d'encadrement à froid, larges entrelacs de fleurons à froid, tranches mouchetées, plats biseautés. L'ouvrage - ici revêtu d'un reliure du temps montée sur ais de bois et à large décor estampé à froid - s'orne de quelques lettrines de Benoît Prévost et suit l'édition de 1547. ''Jean de Gaigny (mort en 1549), fut le premier aumônier et prédicateur ordinaire de François Ier. Brillant érudit, grand collectionneur de manuscrits, il fut très intransigeant dans la défense de la foi catholique. Ami de nombreux savants, il se brouilla à la fin de sa vie avec l?imprimeur et humaniste Robert Estienne''. Bibles imprimées du XVe au XVIIIe siècle, 4693. Angles et coupes élimés. Manque en tête du dos. Mors frottés. Quelques rousseurs éparses et cernes claires dans le corps d'ouvrage. Petit manque angulaire affectant six feuillets ; un autre souffre d'un manque marginal avec infime atteinte au texte. Six feuilles présentent une légère galerie de vers avec tout au plus la perte d'une lettre à la dernière ligne.
