Magazine. Condition: Very Good+. First Edition; First Printing. This collection includes the three oversized format issues of Analog Magazine that make up Dune World (Dec. 1963, Jan 1964 & Feb 1964) , the five issues of Analog that make up The Prophet of Dune (three in the oversized format, two in the more recognizable smaller than trade sized format ( Jan 1965 - May 1965) ) , the five issues of Galaxy Magazine that make up Dune Messiah (July 1969- Nov. 1969) , and the first mass market paperback of Dune (Ace, N-3 with a price of .95 cents). Most issues are in Very Good+ (or better) condition. There is a smallish spot of discoloration to the front cover of Analog Dec. 1963, a crease to the front cover (done during publication) to the Feb 1964 issue, a small tear to the bottom front spine joint and bit of a bump / crease to the top spine end of the sept 1969 issue, and some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends of the mass market paperback Dune. "Herbert began researching Dune in 1959. He was able to devote himself wholeheartedly to his writing career because his wife returned to work full-time as an advertising writer for department stores, becoming their breadwinner during the 1960s. The novel Dune was published in 1965, which spearheaded the Dune franchise. He later told Willis E. McNelly that the novel originated when he was assigned to write a magazine article about sand dunes in the Oregon Dunes near Florence, Oregon. He got overinvolved and ended up with far more raw material than needed for an article; while the article was never written, it planted in Herbert the seed that would become Dune.
