Octavo. xvi, 266, 6 [ads.]. 8.25" x 6" ILLUSTRATED TURKISH FOLKTALES Translated by British folklorist and ethnographer Lucy Garnett (1849-1934) who spent her adult years traveling through the Ottoman Empire, traversing Turkey and Greece in pursuit of folktales. Ottoman Wonder Tales is her collection and translation of Turkish tales, ranging from the holy men of Islam to the romances of the Djins. Charmingly illustrated by Charles Folkard, beloved for his colorful fairytale illustrations, Garnett's collection offers insight into Victorian British perspectives on the folk life of the Turkish people. Light rubbing to extremities, hinges partially cracked, but holding firm, still overall near fine. Publisher's full blue cloth, illustratively stamped in gilt, periwinkle, teal, yellow, and black, teg.
