Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First published in September 1943, this is a second impression of October 1943, a tribute to the book's popularity. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of largely cream and brown jacket and spine with bold jacket woodcut of farm animals. corners slightly rubbed, some browning to spine, no ffep as issued as usual during wartime, not price clipped (4s 6d), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age and poor wartime paper. 90pp, illustrated. A concise guide to the art of managing livestock aimed at younger farmers. Information regarding various breeds is kept to a minimum so as to give as much space as possible to the general principles applicable to many types of animal. Photographs are also included. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in British wartime agriculture, animal husbandry and the history of farming. I have been able to find out very little about the author Frank Garner, beyond the fact that he was a Lecturer in Agriculture at Cambridge and advisor on farming for the County of Suffolk. An interesting and scarce survival.
