Commemorative volume issued to celebrate the first fifty-six years of this all-Black high school in Charleston, West Virginia, published two years after the Supreme Court's decision Brown v. Board of Education. The school was first founded and led by C.W. Boyd, the son of formerly enslaved parents, after twelve pupils "qualified and passed the entrance test for high school work." The school went on to graduate 2,438 students in the following 56 years. The volume commemorates graduates from all those years, as well as its current student body and staff. Quite scarce. We find no other copies in the trade or OCLC as of May, 2026.
