Born in France in 1761, Chaminade was an active priest during the tumultuous French Revolution, secretly ministering to the faithful during the Reign of Terror. Exiled to Spain in 1797, he lived in Saragossa for three years, where it is believed he received a divine revelation that set him on the path to establish an institute dedicated to educating youth. Upon his return to France, Chaminade established the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin in Bordeaux in 1800, which quickly grew in popularity and became a model for the establishment of other Sodalities throughout France and beyond. The book highlights Chaminade's emphasis on the importance of personal initiative, apostolic zeal, and a spirit of democracy and equality within the Sodality. Chaminade's legacy continues to inspire the Society of Mary, which remains dedicated to providing Catholic education and guidance to youth worldwide.
