De Broglie (1821-1901) war 1873-74 und nochmals 1876 Premierminister Frankreichs und bekleidete zeitwei…se auch die Ämter des Außen-, Innen- und Justizministers. Vertreter einer reaktionären, klerikalen Politik. Über die beiden Photographen ist wenig biographisches zu finden, nachweisbar sind von ihnen aber Portraits zahlreicher Prominenter ihrer Zeit, so daß das Atelier mit Sicherheit zu den besseren Adressen zählte.

L'expéditeur le remercie de sa thèse, excellente, et commente : "Il est absolument certain que de gros progrès ont été faits dans le bassin d'Arcachon au point de vue salubrité. Les efforts des ostréiculteurs sont méritoires. Mais dire que cela suffit, que les consommateurs peuvent impunément manger les huitres du bassin sans jamais avoir d'accident typhique ou paratyphique, cela je n'en suis pas du tout persuadé. Arcachon n'a pas de tout-à-l'égoût, il en est de même pour tous les petits ports du Golfe. Les fosses d'aisance non étanches se déversant automatiquement dans la mer [ . ] D'ailleurs si je suis bien informé il y a eu 4 ou 5000 cas de thyphoïde à Bordeaux de novembre à janvier, or ce sont les beurres et les huitres qui ont été trouvés infectants [Il continue sa démonstration et conclut : ] "Je ne parle pas des moules pour lesquelles aucune disposition n'existe ; au nom de la liberté du commerce on empoisonne froidement les gens : 28 cas de typhoïde près de Marseille viennent de provoquer 7 morts et on ne fait rien !".
