Zürich, Zurcher et Furrer, 1858-1859. Three parts in one. 4to (25.4 x 21.5 cm). 126 [47; 59; 20] pp.; 27 [13; 10; 4] tinted lithographed plates, two maps of which one hand-coloured in green, yellow and blue. Contemporary half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with paper label with script title. Original printed wrapper bound in. = Rare contributions to the paleobotany of Italy. Each paper well-illustrated, and containing new species. The first paper was published in 1858, the other two in 1859. The title of the second seems to imply that the first is "Contributions à la Flore Fossile Italienne. Première volume", although an explicit statement appears to be absent. However, it was differently titled, as above. The Cat. BM(NH) quotes it as having six parts, published within the Neue Denkschriften. The wrappers indicate that we have a separate, offprint, editions of the first three. This first paper is dedicated to the famous Swiss geologist Oswald Heer, and to Meneghini; the second to the famous palaeobotanist Franz Unger; and the third to Madame C. de Rumine. Small library stamp on cover and hand-written and signed and dedications to Chavennes (first paper) and to De Rumine (the second and third paper). Some scattered light foxing, but generally in a very good condition. Cat. BM(NH) 2, p. 645.
