Seine Mutter Stephanie war vor ihrer Ehe Sängerin in den Vereinigten Staaten. 1974 gründete er in Los Angeles die Schülerband Skunk Tussle und sammelte erste Erfahrungen in einer Theatergruppe. 1983 schloss er sein Studium in französischer Literatur erfolgreich in Rom ab und begann, mit Paul Micioni zusammenzuarbeiten.
