Giuseppe Gazzeri (Firenze, 1771-1847) compì gli studi in legge presso l'Università di Pisa, ove si laureò nel 1795. Lasciata la carriera forense, si dedicò interamente agli studi scientifici, attratto in particolare dalle ricerche dei chimici francesi. Nel 1807 fu nominato professore di chimica del Liceo di Scienze Fisiche e Naturali di Firenze. Passò in seguito alla Scuola di Farmacia presso l'Ospedale di S. Maria Nuova, dove insegnò a lungo. Fu Commissario generale della Magona e Miniere della Toscana. Propose inoltre la perforazione dei terreni boraciferi nella zona di Larderello per attivare nuovi soffioni. Membro dell'Accademia dei Georgofili, della Crusca e di altre accademie fiorentine, pubblicista, professore di chimica farmaceutica, aveva scritto un libretto sull'imminente pubblicazione del Vocabolario, in cui Gherardini faceva magra figura; ed era stato attaccato da un giornalista, MENINI, su questioni di lingua e come calunniatore di Giovanni Gherardini (1778-1861). Qui parla anche del lavoro dei Vocabolaristi. Rarissima plaquette.

Il manoscritto non è completo perchè arriva fino alla p.43 della pubblicazione a stampa. Nel verso dell'ultima carta: "Vista, e approv. per la stampa la presente memoria da continuarsi.5 agosto 1819. G. Fabrini". E altra sottoscrizione di autorizzazione alla stampa a firma di G. Mauro Bernardini, datata 3 agosto 1819, n. 4181. G. Gazzeri (1771-1847), chimico, igienista e idrologo nel R. Museo di scienze a Firenze, si devono specialmente importanti studi sui concimi. I risultati ottenuti e i metodi seguiti nelle ricerche sui concimi sono tali da occupare un posto di notevole importanza nella storia della scienza agraria in Italia. L'opera del Gazzeri fu largamente citata ed utilizzata da Pictet, Gasparin, Pierre, ma specialmente da Boussingault. (Cfr. Cantù, It. scientifica, 232-33.
