Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Provenance Background: Howard âBig Heartedâ DeVore (1925â"2005). This book was formerly part of the vast sci-fi collection of DeVore, who was a longtime Detroit-area science fiction collector, dealer, publisher, bibliographer, and influential member of science fiction fandom. Known affectionately as âBig Hearted Howard, â he began collecting science fiction-related publications in the 1930s and became active in organized fandom in the late 1940s. DeVore operated a substantial science fiction and fantasy book business from his home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and was widely known among collectors for his extensive holdings of books, pulp magazines, fanzines, and other genre-related material. He participated in numerous science fiction conventions and amateur publishing organizations, contributed to the preservation of science fiction history, and published works through his Misfit Press. With Donald Franson, he produced reference works documenting the Hugo, Nebula, and other fantasy awards. His 1998 book, The Hugo, Nebula and World Fantasy Awards, was nominated for the 1999 Hugo Award for Best Related Work. DeVore was inducted into the Detroit Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the First Fandom Hall of Fame Award in 2005. Following his death on December 31, 2005, he was honored posthumously as Fan Guest of Honor at the 2006 World Science Fiction Convention in Los Angeles. Following his passing in 2005, it remained in the possession of DeVore's family and grandson, Jesse Sissom. Navy cloth cover has very modest rubbing to corners and caps but clean, bright, and in excellent condition. Boards and spine are straight. Binding is tight. Pages are lightly toned but clean and near pristine. Dust jacket has very modest rubbing to the extremities and three tears (1/8" to 1") and very modest rubbing to panels and small erasure to front flap but clean, bright, and in very good+ condition.
