sehr guter Zustand (noch originalverschweisst, OHNE Mängelex.-Stempel!), 168 S., kart. Wer weiss schon, dass 150 Kilo Holz verbrannt werden müssen, um ein Kilo marktfähigen Tabak zu erzeugen, d.h. ein/e Durchschnittsraucher/in alle drei Monate einen Tropenbaum verqualmt? Geschätzte 500.000 Kinder verhungern weltweit im Jahr, weil die Eltern das Geld lieber für Zigaretten als für Kindernahrung ausgeben (allerdings sind die Zahlenangaben nicht immer gut belegt). Und die EU zahlt jährlich rund 1 Milliarde Euro an Subventionen für den Tabakanbau, während zugleich Geld für Nichtraucherkampagnen ausgegeben wird. Dieses Buch steckt voll von Argumenten gegen die Tabakkonzerne, von den ausbeuterischen Bedingungen des Anbaus angefangen bis zu den aggressiven Vermartungsstrategien. Der Band ist auch ein guter Beitrag zur Debatte um Rauchverbote, wobei wohltuend auffällt, dass sich die Argumentation des Bandes keineswegs nur auf die - durchaus sehr doppelbödige - Gesundheitsdebatte beschränkt. Vielmehr kommen hier eben wenig bekannte Fakten z.B. hinsichtlich ökologischer Zusammenhänge auf den (Rauch-)Tisch. Sollte jede/r Raucher/in gelesen haben jede/r zweite von ihnen stirbt übrigens an den Folgen des Rauchens - für Raucher/innen ist das Rauchen die mit Abstand häufigste Todesursache -,aber auch für NichtraucherInnen bietet der Band gutes Argumentationsmaterial.
