Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Two items. Scientific glassware catalogues. Both in original gray linen; catalogue 5700 has red stamping on the spine and cover, and catalogue 5 has, similarly, blue stamping. Price list for Catalogue 5700 inserted with some ink notations. Many pages in Catalogue 5700 printed in green and other tints, in Catalogue 5 a green tint only was used. Catalogue 5700 copiously illustrated with uncredited photographs by Albert Renger-Patzsch, and Catalogue 5 similarly has a few photographs in the same style which are almost certainly also by Renger-Patzsch. While the photographs in the earlier catalogue shows the operations of glassmaking as well as the objects, those in the later catalogue are stylized presentations of the glassware used as sectional dividers. It is possible that these photographs were also taken in the 1930s, as the physical background of manufacturing is omitted. The first catalogue was published in 1937, when Schott was located in Jena. The second catalogue was published ca. 1955, by which time the firm had moved to Landshut, Bavaria (Landshut, Bayern). Renger continued his association with the firm after their reestablishment in West Germany in the postwar years. Little known work by a master of photographic realism. Both books belonged to the same owner, a Jewish woman who emigrated from Germany to Sweden during the 1930s.…
