Boards show some minimal rubbing and toning, slightly bowed, corners bumped. Contents clean, binding firm. A collaboration between the Kentucky agrarian writer and Lexington based Southern Gothic photographer. Collects a longform piece of nature writing by Wendell Berry along with 48 black and white plates by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. Both in photo as in writing, the Red River Gorge is observed over a period of one year, through the four seasons. "In 1967 a large portion of this unique area was destined to be drowned under the waters of a manmade lake. From that sense of impending loss has come this book-a union of the talents of a writer and a photographer that is an eloquent testament to the values of this land and its meaning for contemporary man."
