The book is overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. It comes in its original dust jacket which is in fair condition with several chips and tears and some acid free archival repairs to the underside. The jacket comes in a protective removable mylar wrapper. The blue cloth covers of the book have some mottled discoloration. The binding is good and sound. The interior is lightly toned from age with some occasional light foxing. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some kind of minor imperfection such as a tiny chip or tear, creased page corner, etc. The book measures approximately 8 1/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches and is 242 pages long. Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition.

The boards and spine have soiling/spotting wear along with edges with pristine legible lettering. The pages and endpages are clean, with no markings or folds. There is moderate toning in place (primarily end pages and next to photos) but all text is bright and absolutely legible. No dustjacket. This is an ex-lib copy with a number on the spine, stamps present, and card holder removed from rear board. No remainder mark. This is still a strong copy from General "Bill" Mitchell, considered by many to be one of the key personnel of the early US Army Air Force.

Presumed first UK edition. 314pp, a frontispiece showing the author with the Prince of Wales and numerous other black and white illustrations. William Lendrum Mitchell (1879-1936) was a United States Army officer who had a major role in the creation of the United States Air Force. This book deals in a simple, elementary way with the subject of aeronautics as it existed at the end of the 1920s, and as it was applied in the various countries of the world. It contains information on all branches of aeronautics, civil, commercial and military, and also includes many personal experiences connected with aviation in various parts of the world. The book is bound in the original blue boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards and a few pin-size holes in the cloth on the rear board. The spine edges are rubbed with a 1/4" split in the cloth near the middle of the front spine edge. The spine is slightly faded and the spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth at the top of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the front free endpaper. There is no inscription.

(Preliminary edition to "St. Lawrence waterway. Report of the Joint board of engineers appointed by the governments of the United States and Canada on the improvement of the St. Lawrence River between Lake Ontario and Montreal and on related questions referred to the board by the two governments" (1927) and similar reports.
