Ewry, dont le père, porté sur la boisson, quitte le foyer familial, vit une enfance peu heureuse : il est atteint de poliomyélite et sa mère décède lorsqu'il a six ans. Il se spécialise dans ces épreuves surannées et reste peu connu, y compris de son vivant. Au saut en hauteur, saut en longueur et triple saut en longueur, le tout sans élan, Ewry remporta dix médailles d'or olympiques sur dix tentatives. Cette efficacité olympique est aujourd'hui imbattue.

Manoeuvre chez Renault, déménageant d'Alger à Marseille puis à Paris, Bouguera reste un ex…emple d'athlète amateur. Suite à son exploit sportif, il partit aux États-Unis pour se produire six mois durant dans des courses diverses, le tout grâce à son impresario François Quilgars (1889-1948) et au promoteur Tex Rickard (1870-1929). Revenu riche des États-Unis, Bouguera perdit tout, sauf sa dignité et l'affection des siens qui l'hébergèrent quand la disette fut venue. Mort dans des conditions non élucidées, Bouguera n'a jamais fait l'objet d'une biographie. 94 ans après son exploit sportif, il était temps de combler ce manque. 192 pp. Französisch.

Clément Genty présente le parcours d'Albert Corey (1878-1926), athlète originaire de Meursault et ayant traversé l'Atlantique peu avant les jeux. Outre ses deux médailles, Corey remportera d'autres courses, dont l'édition 1908 du Marathon de Chicago. Alors que le Comité International Olympique orthographie mal le nom de Corey et se trompe sur sa date de naissance, un dossier de reconnaissance a été monté et présenté au CIO.
