Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A Picture Book of Nature. Text by George D. Proctor, Helen Grossman, and Seymour Freedgood. Illustrated by Samuel Nisenson. New York: Garden City Publishing Company, 1943. First Edition, First Printing (copyright page lists 1943 only, with no later printings indicated). Hardcover with original dust jacket, 211 pages. Condition: Very Good. Pages clean, bright, and richly illustrated throughout by Samuel Nisenson. Binding tight. Interior boards feature beautifully illustrated endpapers. Boards show only light shelf wear. Dust jacket is original and unclipped ($2.00), with vibrant artwork; light edge wear and minor shelf rubbing, but overall very well-preserved for its age. Provenance & Ephemera: Laid in is the original gift tag, reading: "Merry Christmas To: Tommy Aunt Althea & Uncle Bob." Likely used as a bookmark, this tag suggests the book was first gifted for Christmas 1943, the year of publication. Also tucked in is a small bookseller's slip from The Old Corner Book Store, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, one of America's oldest and most historically significant bookshops (founded in 1828). The store was the original publishing home of literary figures such as Nathaniel Hawthorne, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. By the mid-20th century, the shop remained a landmark destination for collectors and book lovers. Its presence here strongly suggests this copy was purchased at the Old Corner Book Store when first issued in 1943. A charming and substantial mid-20th century children's book introducing young readers to the wonders of the natural world. Nisenson's vivid illustrations bring plants, animals, and natural settings to life in a style that reflects the warmth and optimism of 1940s children's publishing. Scarce in this condition, particularly with the unclipped jacket, illustrated endpapers, and laid-in period ephemera intact. Samuel Nisenson (illustrator).…

U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C, 1895. Sheet 29"18". Published under the direction of the Hons. Redfield Proctor, Stephen B. Elkins and Daniel S. Cowles, 23d U.S. Infantry. This color lithograph map was published in 1895 at the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C. It is an absolutely stand-out achievement in cartography and an essential element of the massive war records of the Civil War. The maps published in this atlas were tremendously detailed (depending of the scale). In general the maps locate topographic and geographical factors, plus railroads, forts, encampments, and in some cases when the scale allows, it is detailed to individual houses. It of course shows troop movements, battle positions, and lines of battle and its progress. The work done for the atlas is superb. Nothing is printed on the back of the map—the verso is clean and blank. FINE condition Note: the darkish line at the fold center bottom is shadow, ot discoloration. "This is the most detailed atlas yet published on the Civil War. It consists of reproductions of maps compiled by both Union and Confederate soldiers."--"Civil War Maps" by Richard Stephenson. 2nd edition. Scale: 10 miles to the inch. $100.…
