He retired in 1925 and became Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery, 1927-39, and Commissioner of The Royal Hospital, Chelsea, 1932-38, and Warden of Sackville College from 1929-52. Cyril Falls was an Irish-born military historian, academic and journalist, who served on the Western Front in the First World War. Military Operations Egypt and Palestine Volume I was the first of three volumes on the operations of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force (EEF) and the start of the Arab Revolt, the captures of Mecca, Wejh and Aquaba, with chapters on the Arab Revolt drafted by T. E. Lawrence.
